Yesterday was a cleaning/laundry day so nothing major happened though I did go to my aunt’s old neighborhood in Soverato and passed the places I spent time with my mom. The area has changed in many ways but it yet it still looks the same: same hotels, same apartments and same “lungo mare” where you can walk the boardwalk for miles and miles.
Today I spent the day visiting sites in Soverato. The pedestrian only shopping district, the old fort built in the 500’s and the beautiful shops. Found some great jars too!
After I finished my morning walk, I ended up at the deserted beach where the water was calm and crystal clear. A perfect day for swimming.
I chatted the day away with my cousins and ate “Bottarga di Muggine” over pasta tossed with garlic, herbs and bread crumbs. This is a delicacy originating from Sardinia and has been eaten for over 3000 years. It is basically a bunch of fish eggs preserved with salt and hardened into a flat disk. This is then cut or grated and used in many dishes. My cousin is getting me to try everything related to the sea on this trip. When he showed me what is was, I was not eager to try it but, I must admit, it tasted pretty good.
While we were eating, Pietro, one of Frank’s cats decided to join us at the table.
Ah the life of a cat! Tomorrow I’m off to see Borgia and Squillace. Ciao for now.
