This morning I woke up early as I was on a mission to visit the “Mercato delle Vecchie” (Old Ladies’ Market). It’s made up of several lady vendors who grow vegetables and fruits in their gardens and then sell them to the locals. And not every lady is old! Everyone always talks about the “Mediterranean diet” and it’s really just eating only what is in season. I made some purchases, but only what I need for the day, because they sell everyday except Friday so no need to stock up -well except for the fruit where you’re forced to by a tray full but for 2 Euro, who cares? Potatoes were .70 Euro and tomatoes 1 Euro. Prices were extremely reasonable, especially after the price gouging happening in Toronto.

After bringing my groceries home, I decided to make use of the espresso machine in my kitchen and enjoyed a nice coffee on the balcony, with breakfast, before heading out to, you guessed it, the beach. I resisted the urge to help my cousin paint beach umbrellas and spent the day relaxing, eating and walking on the beach.

The sand on the beach is very soft and nothing like the sand of other beaches I’ve visited. Walking on it is very difficult but it’s a great workout. For those who don’t want the workout, the city built a boardwalk that runs the length of the beach.

You’ll see several apartments for rent on the boardwalk so, if you want to visit, you have a lot of options. On my way back home, I saw an amazing pomegranate tree – my first one ever.

The fruit isn’t ripe yet so that’s why it is orange in colour. Finishing off the evening with pizza at a restaurant outside of town famous for its 72 hour raised pizza dough. It was light and fluffy and tasted amazing. After that, a walk around Soverato at night with its unique alleys where you can find just about anything to entertain you.
