The first stop today was the fishing town of Mazara del Vallo, located in the province of Trapani. It is the main fishing village in Italy and gives shelter to Italy’s largest fishing fleet.

Mazara del Vallo was founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC and the discovery of “The Dancing Satyr”, a Phoenician statue, found in the waters of this town is further evidence of this.

The town has. 60,000 inhabitants and, like most towns in this region, was destroyed by the earthquake of 1693 and was rebuilt in the Norman style. The Basillica Cathedral was built in 1088 – 1093 and is the typical Norman style.

Wherever you walk in this town, the stunning views of the water and fishing boats left you breathless.

And in the main garden, more Moreton Bay Fig trees!

For lunch, I made my way to Sciacca, with its panoramic views, it made for some stunning photos of the city and the sea and their local gardens. A great place to stop and eat before heading to Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples.

I am so happy that the weather has been spectacular so far. I was a little sceptical about travelling in October and November but I would now recommend it to everyone. All the locals are saying that this is their second summer😁.
