This morning, as predicted, it was a cloudy day with rain expected so I changed my travel plans and decided to stay in Reggio to visit some other sites. First stop was the Castle Aragonese. It was first mentioned in text in 1027. It is an ancient fortification and an important symbol to Reggio Calabria. You will be immediately struck by the two imposing cylindrical towers, which make up much of what remains of the ancient structure. It was closed to tourists as it is off season and the lovely kiosks that sell local fares were also closed and being taken down.

After visiting the castle, off I went again to Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, though this time I really did shop😁. The Italian candy shop Talmone had so many choices, it was hard to choose. The Bubble Tea shop made me laugh – only the Italians can take an Asian beverage and make it theirs!

I worked on the blog during siesta time, 1pm – 4pm, and finished just as the sun came out. Quick dinner and back on the boardwalk. Tomorrow I’m off to Scilla!
