Tropea is a small town on the east coast of Calabria. It’s known for its cliff top historic centre, beaches and prized red onions.

A visit to a Norman Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Romania built in the XII century. It has suffered much damage due to earthquakes and has been restored numerous times. The interior houses the icon of the patron saint and other works of art.

They are restoring a lot of the old homes in Tropea and converting several of them into restaurants. One thing that I couldn’t help admiring were the beautiful doors.
Walking the streets, we had to make sure to look up as the streets were decorated with colourful origami or plastic strips. It made shopping even more fun!

The day went by so fast. We decided to eat locally made cured meats and cheeses for a true local lunch and topped it off with an ice cream. It was so hard to choose from the many, many choices! Then we headed back to Soverato to relax on the beach. Thanks Frank and Silvia for bringing me to these 2 fabulous towns and sharing Calabria with me.
