Day 15 came with some afternoon rain. I took advantage of the morning sunshine and visited the train station and got my ticket to Reggio Calabria for next week. I also visited a cheese shop where I bought fresh mozzarella – the milk just oozed out of it on the first cut.

In order to accommodate the volume of tourists in the summer months, the city has set up these “Saiba Bar” locations where you can grab pretty much anything to drink – water, soda, coffee, beer, etc. They are convenient but locals don’t like them, or I should say parents don’t like them, because underage youths are taking advantage of them to get beer.

In the afternoon, I had a lazy day at the apartment and then off to Frank and Sylvia’s home for dinner. Frank took the thin cut meat used for carpaccio and stuffed it with garlic, rosemary and some breadcrumbs, rolled them up and then quickly sautéed them in olive oil and garlic. Add a side of mixed green salad and some wine and it was a meal to remember! We ended the evening with walk around the city. Soverato is a very safe city.

Day 16 was another rainy day but it gave me the opportunity to wander and take photos throughout the city. The city’s symbol is the seahorse and, whether you look down or up, you will see it everywhere, including a statue at the entrance of the city.

The beach today was made even more vibrant with the backdrop of the grey sky. I made it to Lido Mediterraneo before the rain started and spent a lovely morning chatting with my cousins and, of course, eating. At around 3 p.m., a beautiful rainbow announced the end of the rain. A simple dinner at my apartment and then off to meet Frank and Sylvia for an ice cream.

An update on my cousin Fabio: he went for further tests today and tomorrow he goes to the doctor to get the results. Fingers crossed all goes well. Thanks to all who sent their best wishes❤️
